Tom Becker has a long and rich history with Cary Alliance. His family first moved here when he was a young teen, and he became active in the youth group and grew in the faith as a result. He and Miriam met in college; and after graduation they married and returned to Cary Alliance, where Tom served as Assistant Pastor. Next they were sent out by our church for ministry in Russia, where they served for 20 years. Afterwards Tom came back on staff and now has the privilege of continuing to love and serve his church family as Senior Pastor.
Pastoral ministry is ministry of prayer and the Word. In preaching, Tom focuses on how the grace and truth of Christ is seen throughout Scripture. He desires to lead our church family to be increasingly Christ-centered, Holy Spirit-empowered and mission-focused. He finds both joy and comfort in serving as part of a team made up of the other pastors and staff as well as the Elder board. His great joy in ministry is coming alongside brothers and sisters in Christ who live out their faith every day in the home and public sphere as well as in the difficult places in life: the sickbed, the prayer closet, and moments of trial and testing.
Tom holds a Master’s degree in theological studies from Wheaton College Graduate School and a Master of Divinity from Columbia International University. Tom and Miriam have four children: three are grown and pursuing life and careers of their own, and their youngest daughter still brings youth and energy to the home. Tom loves to cook and to roast coffee, and enjoys hunting, fishing, bike-riding and camping, while delighting in sharing these interests with his family and friends.
